YouTube banner size and safe area

YouTube channel art is a 16:9 image. YouTube asks for at least 2048 × 1152 pixels (under 6 MB) and shows a different slice on each device: TVs show the whole image, desktops a wide strip, and phones only the middle. Text and logos must sit inside the safe area: 1235 × 338 pixels at the 2048-wide size, centered.

This maker exports at 2560 × 1440 (sharper on large screens) and marks the equivalent safe area in green.

Device What viewers see
TV The full image
Desktop A wide horizontal strip through the middle
Phone Roughly the safe area only

Tips

  • Put your channel name and upload schedule in the safe area; use the rest for color or a photo.
  • Use bold, simple fonts: try Bebas Neue, Anton or Montserrat.
  • If the PNG is over 6 MB (photo backgrounds can be), download the JPG instead.

Frequently asked questions

PNG for flat colors and sharp text; JPG for photos, or if the PNG is over YouTube’s file-size limit.
